Fans in Michigan, throughout the United States and across the globe have been paying close attention to news regarding the divorce of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. A raging child custody battle has ensued and, as far as one can tell, has no end yet in sight. A current issue has to do with a request Pitt made for court records to be sealed.
The situation has included accusations on both sides. Earlier reports made it known that Jolie claimed Pitt was an abusive father. Some believe he wants the court records sealed to protect his own reputation.
Sources close to Jolie say she agrees court records should be sealed for the sake of the children’s privacy. The former couple has been raising six children together. Each parent has reportedly made comments saying the other has caused irreparable damage to them.
These two Hollywood stars are by no means the first parents to have difficulty resolving child custody issues. There are certainly parents in Michigan facing similar challenges. Although the court has the final say when it comes to matters concerning custody, visitation and/or child support, a concerned parent may take steps to ensure that his or her rights are protected and opinion is heard. A logical means for doing so is to allow an experienced family law attorney to act on one’s behalf. As a personal advocate, an attorney can provide sound counsel and guidance as to how best to proceed to prevent delays and keep children’s best interests at heart.
